Front Door- Big Reveal! April 26, 2011 DIY, Home Decor, Our House 23 Comments 61239 Last week I told you how I stained my fiberglass front door, the first time I’ve ever used gel stain. But the door wasn’t quite finished yet! After 3 coats of exterior UV protective water-based polyurethane and some fresh semi-gloss white on the trim, here’s the final product: {Sorry the interior picture was taken at night} I just love the richness the wood tone adds to both the inside and outside of the house. I’m working on the upstairs door now, and hopefully will get to the shutters this week to complete the exterior makeover! Well, for now. I have plans to paint the porch railings…scary! Our front door looks a lot like that and will be stained dark as well. I can only hope that it turns out that good. I have seen some really BAD stained doors. Good job! I don’t think it’s usually in places like Home Depot or Lowes. Minwax makes a gel stain as well, but I had heard good things about Old Masters so that’s why I chose it. Good luck! Therma-Tru, a pioneer in the fiberglass door business, started manufacturing fiberglass doors in 1983. therma tru doors offer the strength of steel and the warmth of wood without the drawbacks of either. Wood warps, splits and cracks. Steel dents and rusts. Fiberglass doesn’t have any of these limitations. I want to use gel stain or a poly shade over my brown painted table, but would like create a faux wood look. I thought of initially taking black and brown AS revax and dry brushing strokes to create this look. What is your opinion? Reply Rachael Evans January 12, 2015 Donna – I actually used a mustardy yellow color…I think the best idea would be to try some combos on some scrap wood and see what you like the best!
