I shared a few photos and stories from my recent trip to Miami with The Home Depot Foundation to work on the Fisher House.

Well before I get into the details on our work there, I wanted to show you some of the interior of the house. It’s absolutely beautiful, and I think had all of the DIY bloggers involved swooning a bit 🙂

Case in point: the kitchen.

Absolute size – x-small

White cabinets + marble countertops elicited many ooooohs and ahhhhhs.

But I think we all nearly fell over at the sight of the wall-to-wall built in fridge/freezer situation.

At the Miami Fisher House, they always provide basic meal ingredients in case a family arrives late in the evening or does not have a car. Families are welcome to purchase their own food and store it in individual baskets in the fridge, or in lockable cubbies on the island.

Despite all the beautiful spaces, there was work to be done. The rooms in the house had not been painted, so 12 of them were scheduled to be done while we were there.

By the time we finished our tour, Team Depot volunteers had already moved all the furniture to the center of the rooms and covered/taped everything.

I hopped in with a trim brush (I’m really good at cutting in…lots of practice at my house haha). And we finished up the first coat in no time. While it was drying, I decided to venture outside in the 88 degree weather to see about the other project….landscaping.

Phew it was HOT! But that didn’t stop the volunteers from weeding, mulching, and putting together patio furniture. It was so inspiring to see everyone lending a hand, many of them traveling over an hour to be there.

The mulched beds circled the whole house, as well as the outer property edge, so as you can imagine it took awhile to get it all done. With so many hands though, we were able to finish by mid afternoon.

Lovely, isn’t it? After the landscaping was done, I went back inside to see if anyone needed help finishing up the second coat of paint. I hopped in and out of a few rooms and got a chance to talk with many of the volunteers. It was a truly fun and productive day!

Here’s a shot of one of the finished rooms.

Overall it was such a great experience! We headed home exhausted, sweaty and covered in mulch 🙂

I loved the design especially the paints used in this house. It has a professional look like what streamline painting does. I find this very useful in making choice with the paint appropriate to a house.
