Elf December 4, 2012 Christmas, Home Depot Celebration Of Service 3 Comments 2943 I got to play Elf this past weekend and deliver some goodies (courtesy of Home Depot and Home Depot Foundation) to a local veteran and his family. The hubs and I packed up the Jeep with boxes on a beautiful, unseasonably warm Saturday and arrived 40 minutes later at a lovely brick ranch, isn’t it sweet? Maybe it’s just because our house has vinyl siding and no mature landscaping, but I have total brick ranch envy. When we got there, they had just finished participating in the local Christmas parade. The girls were jump roping in the parade, and made their shirts (love the DIY spirit!) The local Home Depot Store manager and two of the associates (Teresa, Ron, and Jerry) came to help, as well as a representative from Operation Homefront (Jane). And of course, my husband. Alright guys, enough standing around-time to do the heavy lifting. Have you guys ever heard of a corner tree? I hadn’t, and it took me an embarrassingly long period of time to figure out what it was. But, HELLO this thing is genius! A lot of people put their trees in the corner, and this one only has branches on the the front so 1) it doesn’t stick out as much into the room and 2) you don’t have to fluff/decorate unseen branches. I was so impressed by the clever idea that I’m sure I babbled on about more than a normal person should. Home Depot provided a skirt, ornaments, and topper for the tree. I swear I did help. Actually, I was instrumental in the branch fluffing. I was so excited when the kids wanted to put the ornaments on the tree! You never know what teenagers think is cool/fun 🙂 A beautiful lighted wreath made it onto the large window out front. My favorite part of the day was probably when the whole family gathered around the tree…including the 3 dogs! It was hilarious to watch the animal wrangling! Everything turned out beautifully! Thank you so much to Home Depot and The Home Depot Foundation for letting me spread some holiday cheer to a very deserving family!
