Ever since I painted the cabinets and tiled the backsplash in the kitchen, I’ve been searching for something to put on the wall next to the pantry. It previously only held a wine rack, which was removed at the time of painting. The problem is that it’s not an easy space to fill.  Firstly- it’s not very big, but also because there are two cabinet doors (an upper and lower) that open onto it.  A wall of shelving was out of the question, so I had begun to resign myself to a simple painting or chalkboard. But a maiden voyage to  IKEA inspired me to try some alternative storage.

I fell in love with their storage bars/S hook type systems, the Kroken in particular. The thought of hanging little tubs of herbs on the wall literally made me squeal with delight. Unfortunately a lot of other plans had to come together before I could actually hang up the bar-namely, the chalkboard and the spice storage extravaganza. After toying with several arrangements, I finally found one that was both pleasing to the eye and functional. Because of the cabinets, I had to arrange things asymmetrically but I totally dig it.

I can’t wait to get some herbs in those pots. I love that I have a place to keep my giant pizza peel for bread making. It’s something I use a lot, but I never had anywhere to keep it before. So far, I’m really impressed with the hanging system I picked out! Do any of you use these type of systems from IKEA?
